Parent and Community Education

Co-Chair: Lisa Oglesby Rocha

As a champion for early childhood educational development Ms. Oglesby Rocha received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in child development from Cornell University and a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Initiating AVANCE-Dallas in 1996, she along with her team and the support of the community, have created an effective environment in which often-overlooked Dallas Hispanic parents are motivated and trained in the skills necessary to strongly support higher education as an essential part of their young children’s future.  Since 1996, AVANCE has grown into a vibrant, effective organization serving over 1,000 Hispanic parents and their young children a year in 16 Dallas neighborhoods located in West Dallas, Oak Cliff, East Dallas, Love Field, Pleasant Grove and the Bachman Lake area.
